She cannot stop the constant, low grade drain on life energy around her, which has given her a drastically reduced rate of aging, and high cellular regeneration. She can take someone's life energy for herself, or she can channel life energy from elsewhere into another person, but if she uses it for someone else, it's a 2:1 ratio. Two human lives for one, with the toll paid. If she uses other life forms, restoring a human to life could easily wipe out thirty acres of farmland or woodland. The price for healing an injury as opposed to life-restoration is much less, however, and proportional to the severity of the healing. Because of the uncontrolled, low grade drain on life energy around her, she leads a very secluded life. Interaction with co-workers is kept to a minimum, and any drainage has few lasting effects. The worst effects occur from constant daily day-in-and-day-out cohabitation exposure. Weaknesses: While her powers have rendered her effectively immortal, the effects of aging retarded to the point of cessation when she absorbs energy on a small scale, attempting large scale mass absorptions prove that too much of a good thing can be very, very bad. It accelerates her aging and attempts to get her body age caught up with her actual years. The effects of serving as a conduit of energy from one source to another, such as in the case of bringing someone back, or healing someone's injuries, are insignificant. It is mainly when she attempts to absorb large amounts of energy at once into herself. Although she is, for all intent and purposes, immortal, and holds a vastly accelerated cellular regeneration ability, Emma can still be killed, and if killed, will remain dead. History: The only child of Fritz Sorensen and Margaret Bautilde, her parents, who married after Margaret returned to the States after her time in the WAC during the war, divorced in 1950. Margaret moved home with her parents, and both of them died with in the next three years. Margaret was aware that Emma, who was five years old by this time, had something 'wrong' with her, because she was still physically a six-month-old baby. Mentally and verbally, she was on par with her actual age, and her physical control over her limbs and functions were normal for a five-year-old. After her parents died, Margaret moved away to a new town, and kept Emma hidden and secret. When Emma was sixteen, Margaret died. She looked more like a child not quite old enough for kindergarten. The police tracked down her biological father and he took custody, and realized with a bit of trial and error, what she could do. In 1966, he bought a Winnebago, and went on the road with her, traveling from town to town and bilking residents for money for healing and miracles. How he set up the scene depended on where they were. From faith healing, to new age hippie enlightenment, he had a rhetoric for all of it. Emma was still not aware of the full scope and cost of her powers, and two years later, she found out when she overheard her father working out some details with someone who was buying a "miracle". She refused to cooperate, and the police forced her father to give up the money and ran them out of town. Infuriated that she refused to obey him, he threatened to pimp her out for money instead, pointing out that she was still an adult, she just looked like a preteen girl. She was locked into a room on the Winnebago, and several hours later, her father returned with five men. In a panic of self-defense, she drained all six of them, and the heavy influx of human life energy allowed her to manipulate her own body for a brief time after, making herself age up in appearance as far as she could go, which wasn't past her own actual age. Emma has led a very solitary life, becoming a librarian in a remote town in a state with a very small population. She keeps her abilities a secret, although SHIELD is aware of what she can do. | ||||||||||
